DANA ARISS

“Like breath itself, Yoga is life.”  ~ Dana Ariss

For Dana, yoga is more than a physical practice – it is an invitation, an opening, a pathway to deeper connection with self, others, and spirit. It was during the stillness of Savasana that Dana first heard the quiet whispers awakening her to a journey of eating disorder recovery and sobriety. In gentle Vinyasa classes infused with this philosophy, Dana guides students to link breath with motion to create a practice of moving meditation.  Dana’s classes empower students to become ever-more present to the ebb and flow of change, embodying the physical discipline of asana as they embark upon their own paths of healing. Spiritual alignment is the central theme of Dana’s teaching and practice. The satisfaction she gets after leading a class is unlike any other – a deep inner peace, love, and harmony borne from the collective consciousness of a communal yoga class. A RYT 500 yoga teacher, Dana completed her 200-hour teacher training in Dubai with YogaWorks before traveling to India to do her advanced yoga studies. Dana teaches meditation and includes breath work and mindfulness in all aspects of her teaching.

Daily Yoga & Pilates with Dana and Solène

Begin the day with time to integrate thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a guided moving meditation, surrounded by Nature. We’ll ease into our bodies with simple standing stretches and breathwork to ground ourselves, then walk in silence to the rhythm of our breath. When we walk without the need to rush, talk, or get somewhere, tension melts and we relax deeply. Meditation experience is not necessary to join us for Morning Meditation. Please wear suitable clothing and appropriate footwear for the outdoors. We will meet in the yoga studio, and, rain or shine, we’ll wander together and find calm.

Morning Meditation

Exploring the enchanted forests with Catherine Turner. Castle Ashby’s Arboretum (Latin for ‘collection of trees’) dates back to the 1860s and is home to possibly the UK’s largest Weeping Beech. A selection of Pines, Spruces, and more common trees such as Yews, and Holly are surrounded by wildflowers. Weaving through the trees along the nature trail provides a close-up of the plants and wildlife uniquely encouraged and protected at the heart of the estate. Meditation experience is not necessary to join us for Forest Walks. Please wear suitable clothing and appropriate footwear for the outdoors. Forest Walks meet at reception.

Forest Walks

Sound baths are a meditative practice using resonant music, instruments, and sound to create an immersive experience. Sound baths take the participants on a journey of relaxation and meditation, guiding the body and mind to release stress and anxiety and develop deeper awareness and inspiration.

Sound Bath

We are delighted to offer open-water swimming at Castle Ashby’s private lake. Designed by Capability Brown, the 500-metre swim course is fringed by attractive water lilies and is truly magical. Open-water swimming has multiple benefits, such as improved sleep and mood.

Open Water Swimming

During this guided two-hour nature tour (including hotel transfer), you’ll learn about the different species and ancient trees that make this enclosed 85-acre park unique. Sane Copse is an ancient woodland dating from around 1066 a.d., with a relatively recent military history. The Copse is home to various species of deer, including Fallow, Red Variety, Roe, Muntjac, and Chinese Water Deer. The Copse is a designated Site for Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for nine different species classifications, including dragonflies and the protected Great Crested Newt.

Ancient Woodlands

“EMW is an elegant, sophisticated invitation for everyone to feel seen. SBG did a brilliant job considering every detail and ensuring all aspects of participant needs were covered.  You could drop in or take a break as needed.”
